Salerno: clashes between ultras at the Cavese-Latina match on September 29, 9 ultras from Cavese ordered to remain at home

Yesterday the State Police of Salerno executed an order for the application of a personal precautionary measure requiring the person to remain in the municipality of residence issued by the Court of Nocera Inferiore - Office of the Preliminary Investigations Judge, at the request of the Public Prosecutor's Office at the Court of Nocera Inferiore, against 9 ultras of Cavese. The suspects subjected to precautionary measures, moreover, were prescribed not to leave their home during the course of sporting events in which the Cavese football team participates.

The restrictive measure, carried out by the police officers of the Cava de' Tirreni detached police station and the DIGOS, supported by other offices of the Salerno Police Headquarters and by units of the Campania Crime Prevention Unit, originates from events that occurred on the afternoon of September 29, 2024, during the Cavese - Latina football match, a match valid for the Serie C championship, when – according to the reconstruction of the facts resulting from the investigations carried out, shared by the investigating judge – a fringe of ultras fans from Cava, made up of masked individuals armed with sticks, glass bottles and smoke bombs, carried out a violent attack against the State Police officers, deployed on Public Order duty, carrying out a real road block that culminated, even, with the throwing of a powerful explosive device in the direction of the policemen, which detonated a few meters from their feet.

All of this happened right in the city centre where several commercial activities are located and in front of numerous motorists and road users, who, frightened and scared by the violent action in progress, were forced to make sudden manoeuvres to avoid being involved in the clashes and – even – to take refuge inside the aforementioned businesses.

Immediately after the events, the Police Station staff, under the direction of this Public Prosecutor's Office, began a detailed investigation, which allowed them to reconstruct all the phases of the violent action and identify - according to a judgment of circumstantial gravity shared by the investigating judge - the perpetrators of the act.

It is worth highlighting that in the facts being investigated, the existence of – among other things – the crime of "public intimidation with the use of weapons", taking into account how the actions of the troublemakers were specifically aimed at disturbing public order and in particular, at opposing the police forces.

During the activities, searches were also carried out, ordered by the Public Prosecutor's Office at the Court of Nocera Inferiore against the suspects, at the end of which the following were found: The clothes allegedly worn during the clashes on September 29 were seized.

For the above-mentioned facts, the Police Chief of the province of Salerno, likewise today, issued the same number of 5-year DASPO orders against the suspects (for some, with the attached obligation to sign).

As demonstrated by the facts in question, the Public Prosecutor's Office and the State Police are paying maximum attention to combating the always alarming phenomenon of violence committed during sporting events and against the Police.
