A 20-year-old French citizen was arrested by the State Police, in execution of a European Arrest Warrant issued by France, under investigation for crimes relating to the possession of firearms and for the murder of a compatriot, which occurred on May 10 in France, in which the subject, following an argument, shot a compatriot, killing him, and then fled to Italy.
The investigation, launched following the issuing of the European Arrest Warrant by the French authorities, was prompted by information received in the context of the collaboration between the State Police and the French Police according to which the alleged perpetrator of the murder could actually be found in Rimini, where he had slept for several nights near the station.
The Central Operations Service immediately, having acquired the information from the French authorities, informed the Rimini Flying Squad of the possible presence of the man, extremely dangerous in light of the brutal crime he had committed a few days earlier in France.
However, the checks carried out in the hotel where he had stayed, together with a woman, who subsequently returned to France and arrested, had given negative results, as the man had left the accommodation facility the previous day.
With the coordination of the Central Operations Service of the Central Anti-Crime Directorate of Rome, the investigators of the Flying Squad verified all the information received, interviewing the people informed of the facts and checking the cameras of the municipal video surveillance systems.
The initial searches, however, had given negative results, but the incessant work of the investigators, which continued consecutively and without stopping for numerous hours, made it possible to acquire further investigative sources on the fact that the man had activated a SIM card of a Italian operator in order to communicate with your mobile phone via data traffic.
Furthermore, the precise tracking of his last movements, reconstructed by analyzing the images from the cameras and the statements of the people who had noticed the man wandering around the area, had allowed him to be presumably located in the Rimini seafront area.
After some searches, in fact, the subject was traced near Viale Regina Elena, where, recognized by the Flying Squad operators, he was immediately stopped and accompanied to the police station for identification procedures.
Once his identity was confirmed, the man was made aware that he was under arrest in execution of a judicial order from France and, consequently, transferred to the local prison at the disposal of the proceeding Judicial Authority.
