Rimini: 36-year-old Italian arrested for aggravated robbery.
A man had entered a church in the centre of Rimini, where, taking advantage of the drowsy state of the priest who was resting in the rectory, he had robbed him by holding a knife to his throat, ordering him to hand over all the money he was holding and, managing to get hold of the sum of cash of around 500 euros, the result of the offerings of the faithful.
The robber then quickly moved away in the direction of the nearby railway station, losing track of himself and evading the initial searches by the police.
The Flying Squad investigators, who intervened immediately, after having collected the victim's statements and examined the images recorded by the video surveillance systems, reconstructed the exact dynamics of the event, identifying, as the possible perpetrator of the serious crime, a thirty-six year old originally from the province of Mantua, homeless, burdened by numerous judicial and police precedents including for specific crimes, recognizable by the numerous and particular tattoos on his neck and arms, also described in a painstaking manner by the priest.
The searches, which began several days ago, had had negative results, precisely because the boy from Mantua did not have a fixed abode, also in light of the fact that he could have taken a train to get away from Rimini immediately after the robbery.
By continuing to monitor him constantly through the databases used by the police forces, however, information was acquired that, in the meantime, the man had been checked in Bologna by the Railway Police, who had reported him for another crime against property.
The Anti-Robbery investigators, therefore, accompanied him to the Rimini Police Headquarters in order to subject him to further investigations, aimed in particular at acquiring detailed photographic evidence of some particular tattoos, as well as to subject him to identification by the victim.
Following the investigations, since serious evidence of guilt was collected against him, in light of the high risk of escape, also given the absence of a stable residence on the national territory, the thirty-six-year-old was arrested and transferred to the Rimini District Prison, at the disposal of the Judicial Authority.
Please remember that the presumption of innocence applies towards suspected and accused persons.
