Has been arrested by the State Police of Rimini and Pesaro, in flagrante delicto, a 20 year old citizen of Campania, alleged perpetrator of an aggravated fraud committed on 16 April against a lady in Pesaro.

The activity, the result of a synergistic collaboration between the Flying Squads of Rimini and Pesaro and the Traffic Police Subsection of Riccione, made it possible to locate and identify the alleged perpetrator of a so-called elderly scam, which took place a few hours earlier in Pesaro. Specifically, in fact, an 80-year-old lady had been contacted on the telephone by a fake Carabiniere, who had warned her of serious legal consequences towards her son due to the failure to pay an administrative fine of 5000 euros.

The modus operandi is typical of elderly scams, in which targets are identified whose telephone numbers are easily available and who could live alone; the interlocutor on the other side of the phone, in fact, never finished the conversation in order to prevent the lady from being able to call her son to actually verify the news, creating a strong psychological pressure on her so that, by remaining constantly on the phone, she collaborates with the accomplice, giving him the precious items in his possession. And in fact, after a few minutes, a man showed up who, taking advantage of the risk that the woman's affections could get into serious legal trouble, managed to get around 2500 euros in cash and numerous gold jewels delivered.

The investigators of the Pesaro Flying Squad immediately managed to identify the car in which the man was leaving, alerting their colleagues from the Rimini Flying Squad and the Riccione Traffic Police, providing them with the exact description of the perpetrator of the scam.

Thanks to this coordination, therefore, the same afternoon the man was stopped in Rimini, near the Sick Hospital, and was accompanied to the police station for further investigations.

Part of the cash stolen from the elderly lady and all the gold jewelery she herself delivered and subsequently recognised, were found in her possession.

In light of the seriousness of the disputed facts, therefore, the man was arrested for the crime of aggravated fraud and made available to the proceeding Judicial Authority for the immediate procedure.

The event reconstructed by the investigators made it possible to identify the alleged perpetrator of the serious crime. However, the The first form of protection for crimes of this kind is prevention, based on the high threshold of attention that must be maintained in all possible cases of fraud.
