Rieti: Defrauds 70-year-old married couple of over 3.000 euros, reported
The Carabinieri Station of Rieti has a man originally from Campania was reported at liberty to the Public Prosecutor's Office of Rieti for the crime of fraud. The measure was forwarded to the Judicial Authority at the end of an investigation started last September following a complaint filed by a married couple from Rieti, both in their seventies, who reported having been the victims of a scam perpetrated by a man, unknown to them, via some SMS and WhatsApp messages.
The latter he had contacted the two elderly people pretending to be their son and, claiming that he had lost his old cell phone and therefore needed money to buy a new one, he had managed to get a prepaid card, registered in his name, topped up for a total amount of over 3.000 Euros.
The elderly spouses, misled, only after having made the relevant payments, they discovered that they had been defrauded and that their son had never actually lost his cell phone or asked them for money. They therefore decided to contact the Carabinieri of the Rieti Station who, upon receiving the news of the crime, immediately began the investigations of the case, finally managing to identify the alleged perpetrator of the fraud, who was then reported to the Rieti Judicial Authority.
On this occasion, the Carabinieri always recommend paying the utmost attention to any requests for money made by telephone or by unknown persons and reporting any suspicious cases as soon as possible to the Single Emergency Number 112 or to the nearest Carabinieri station.
