Fraud against a pensioner: 2 reported by the Carabinieri of Poggio Mirteto

The Carabinieri Station of Poggio Mirteto has reported while at liberty to the Public Prosecutor's Office of Rieti two people for the crime of fraud. The communication of the crime report was forwarded to the Judicial Authority at the end of an investigation activity relating to the complaint filed by a 70-year-old local woman who reported having been the victim of a scam perpetrated by two men, unknown to her, via some SMS and WhatsApp messages. One of the accused had contacted the woman and, pretending to be his son (residing outside the province for work reasons), told her that he had had some unexpected and pressing economic difficulties and asked his interlocutor to immediately start the money. In doing so, he had managed to have approximately 6.000 Euros credited to a current account for which he provided the IBAN.

The elderly woman, misled, only discovered after having made the payment that she had been deceived and that her real son had never actually asked her for money. He therefore decided to contact the Carabinieri of the Poggio Mirteto station who, having received the news of the crime, immediately started the investigations of the case and managed to identify the authors of the scam, both holders of the account into which the money had been paid, later reported to the Rieti Judicial Authority. On this occasion, the Carabinieri always recommend paying the utmost attention to any requests for money made by telephone or by unknown persons and reporting any suspicious cases as soon as possible to the Single Emergency Number 112 or to the nearest Carabinieri station.
