Theft in Cancellara Church: 3 Youths Arrested

Once again the Carabinieri Stations present even in the smallest municipalities of the province confirm themselves as essential bastions of legality and security for the community. A bitter surprise has touched to the Parish Priest of the Church of SS Annunziata of Cancellara  when he realized that unknown criminals had broken into the offering box left by the faithful, taking away its contents. The Priest immediately reported the incident to the Commander of the local Carabinieri Station thus allowing the search for the criminals to be activated without delay.

Among the patrols in circuit mobilized in the area by the Operations Center of the Carabinieri Company of Acerenza, the one from the Carabinieri Station of Cancellara managed to intercept and block an Alfa Romeo with three young people between 25 and 31 years old on board, all from the province of Foggia. The on-site investigations by the Benemerita men allowed them to find in their possession cash, both in small denomination banknotes and coins, corresponding to the stolen goods taken from the place of worship, as well as two burglary tools. Taken to the offices of the Carabinieri in Acerenza, the three young men, after the ritual formalities, they were declared under arrest and held in security cells awaiting direct trial while the money was returned to the parish priest and the burglary tools were seized.

The Judge of Preliminary Investigations of the Court of Potenza, at the end of the direct trial, has then validated the arrests operated by the Carabinieri with against the three defendants the precautionary measure of house arrest for one, the obligation to remain in one's home for another and immediate release from prison for the third. The prompt response of the Carabinieri, made possible by their daily and widespread presence even in small towns, proved to be the real key to resolving this episode that goes well beyond the mere economic value of the stolen goods, underlining the intimate involvement with which the Carabinieri operate to protect the community.
