Refugee theme: the meeting between Piantedosi and the Minister of Security of Bosnia

The Minister of the Interior Matteo Piantedosi met the Minister of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina Nenad Nešić yesterday at the Interior Ministry.

Given the status of candidate country to the EU, the owner of the Interior Ministry reiterated that Italy supports the accession process, which confirms Bosnia Herzegovina's belonging to common European values.

The Ministers, remembering World Refugee Day, discussed the relevant common challenges, starting from dismantling the criminal groups that manage illicit trafficking through the Balkans.

"With this in mind" added Minister Piantedosi “for the management of migratory flows that cross the Balkan route it is essential to share a strong integrated border strategy, encouraging the strengthening of operational collaboration between Frontex and the Balkan countries”.

According to Piantedosi “precisely cooperation with Europol can represent an essential element in moving closer to the EU and, in this sense, the recent activation of the national contact point for cooperation with Europol constitutes a great success for the Government of Bosnia and Herzegovina".

Furthermore, they were recorded again during yesterday 1.359 migrants were guests of the Lampedusa hotspot where the last 218 arrivals arrived the previous night.
19 people had been transferred from the very first reception facility in the Imbriacola district - on 2023 June 430 - with scheduled ferries to Porto Empedocle.

Also for yesterday, while the Prefecture of Agrigento awaits confirmation of the arrival in Lampedusa of the Diciotti ship which has embarked 600 migrants, During the morning, the transfer of 232 people was already arranged with the Galaxy ferry which arrived in Porto Empedocle in the evening.
