First charter flight with compatriots from Lebanon landed in Rome

It landed on the night of October 3, at the Leonardo Da Vinci International Airport in Rome Fiumicino, the first charter flight organized by the Italian Government, at the instigation of the Vice President of the Council and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Hon. Antonio Tajani, to to facilitate the return of compatriots from Lebanon.

“We have invited all Italians to leave Lebanon on commercial flights, and we are committed to increasing the number through charter flights,” the Minister said, explaining how the Government has worked with airlines to resolve the problem of saturation of scheduled flights. “We continue to monitor the situation of Italians in Lebanon through our Embassy in Beirut and the Crisis Unit,” added Vice President Tajani, stressing that “we are ready to take any initiative to guarantee the safety of our compatriots, but for the moment we exclude the possibility of an evacuation.”

They returned to Italy with last night's flight 178 compatriots. Additional charter flights will be organized in the coming days. Italian citizens who have difficulty booking a seat on a commercial flight from Beirut can contact the Italian Embassy in Beirut (+9613489966) or the Crisis Unit of the Farnesina (+390636225).
