Tajani: satisfaction with the new rule which eliminates disparities in tenure in European schools between Italian teachers and their European colleagues

At the instigation of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation the Hon. Antonio Tajani, the Council of Ministers approved a DPCM thanks to which school staff serving abroad will be able to opt for a single continuous period of nine years of service abroad, both in Italian and European schools.

“A result made possible by the teamwork carried out by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Education and Merit” commented Vice President Tajani, adding that the new norm "responds to a specific request from Italian families who attend the European school system."

Until now, in fact, the duration of service abroad was fixed invariably in two six-year periods over the entire career, separated by at least six years of service in the national territory.

This reform, in addition to ensuring greater teaching continuity for the benefit of pupils in the European schools, will remedy a disparity in treatment between Italian teachers in the European school system and teachers from other EU countries, whose mandate is set at nine years.
