Silvia Sardone: the complaint and the reaction to the death threat in a video by “Maranza”.

Silvia Sardone, MEP and municipal councilor in Milano for the League, reported a serious episode of threats and intimidation through a viral video that is circulating on social media. The film, made by a group of young people affiliated with youth gangs, is a clear message against politics and the battles carried out by Sardone, in particular with regard to security in the suburbs of Milano and the fight against Islamisation and crime. In this context, the MEP received insults and death threats, including an explicit “Fan***o la Sardone”, accompanied by throat-slitting gestures and hymns to violence.

The video and the threats: a manifesto of intolerance

In the video, members of a baby gang, identified by Sardone as “maranza”, are the protagonists of an act of verbal violence and explicit threats. Among the various insults, one of the boys states: “I am Egyptian, I take what I lack in Italy”, a clear reference to an alleged territorial claim. Sardone, who has long denounced crime in the most problematic areas of Milano, like Via Padova, stressed that this intimidation is directly linked to his complaints regarding drug dealing, youth violence, and the growing presence of criminal phenomena in these areas. Furthermore, the MEP highlighted another worrying trend, that of young North Africans who are filmed while performing the “knife dance,” a gesture of defiance that represents the escalation of violence in the suburbs of Milan.

Sardone's reaction: No fear, only determination

Despite the seriousness of the threats, Silvia Sardone said she does not want to be intimidated. In a note, she reiterated the importance of continuing with her political and social battles, despite the pressure and threats she has received. She also recalled that, for a year, she has been under constant escort due to the numerous death threats she has received. Her determination to fight crime and radicalization in the suburbs of Milan, issues that are close to her heart, continues to arouse opposition from those who seek to obscure the reality of these areas.

The League's support: united in the fight against threats

The Lega Party expressed its solidarity with Silvia Sardone, firmly condemning the act of intimidation. Several members of the party, including the regional councilor of the Lega, Davide Caparini, and the regional secretary of the Lega Lombarda, Massimiliano Romeo, expressed concern about the escalation of violence and the intolerance shown in the video. Caparini emphasized that the video represents a violent response from those who do not want to see the problems related to crime in the suburbs of Milan reported. For Caparini, Silvia Sardone has become a symbol for all those honest citizens who do not resign themselves to degradation and violence.

"There is an obvious escalation against Silvia Sardone, after the shameful death threats and insults received in a trap video that is circulating online. What happened is a very serious act of intimidation, which cannot and must not be tolerated. Silvia has always made the fight against crime and the fight against Islamic radicalization in the suburbs of Milan one of her main battles. Her reports on drug dealing, youth gangs and violence in the most problematic areas of Milano they annoy those who try to hide the reality of the facts. This video, which glorifies violence and death, is the response of those who want to intimidate her. Verbal violence and threats directed at those who, like Silvia, do not lower their gaze and work for the good of our community are the clear manifestation of a dangerous climate of intolerance that we cannot ignore. The League is at Silvia’s side: threats will not stop us.” –  The regional councilor of the League in Lombardy declares this David Caparini.

Massimiliano Romeo, in reiterating his solidarity with Sardone, expressed his support, revealing the continuous increase in attacks and threats against the politics of the League. Solidarity also came from the Milanese deputy Igor Iezzi, who defined the episode as an unacceptable act by a baby gang that continues to spread violence in the streets of Milano. The Lega representative confirmed that the League will not be intimidated and will continue to fight against the degradation of the suburbs and the youth gangs that infest the city.

Condemnation of violence and intolerance

The Silvia Scurati, regional councilor of the League, expressed closeness to Sardone, condemning the behavior of the young protagonists of the video. She highlighted how verbal violence and threats are the result of a climate of intolerance that is permeating society. Scurati also underlined the silence of the left-wing world regarding these episodes of violence and daily threats against Sardone. According to Scurati, it is time to stop the impunity of those who incite violence, referring to the need for a strong response against youth gangs and anyone who praises Islamic extremism and violence. In this sense, she reiterated that the League will continue to fight against the degradation of the suburbs of Milan, making security and integration a central theme of its political action.

“Solidarity with our friend Silvia Sardone for the umpteenth threats and insults. Unfortunately, not a day goes by without news of death threats against her, and every time we witness the usual silence of the left-wing world, blind, deaf and incapable of distancing itself from those who daily threaten her, her family and the entire League. This time it is a video message made up of death threats, insults to the League, 'throat-slitting' gestures and hymns to violence that a baby gang from Maranza wanted to deliver in a trap video that is circulating online these days”.

“The League obviously will not be intimidated by these miserable people and will continue to fight with even more conviction against the Maranza, drug dealers, baby gangs, degradation of the suburbs, immigrants, violence and those who praise Islamic extremism. The problem of the integration of second-generation foreigners is increasingly evident as we have unfortunately already seen with the unworthy scenes of the New Year's Eve in Piazza Duomo. Those who do not want to integrate into our country and live together civilly must be expelled and we should all converge on this, from right to left” – Thus Silvia Scurati, regional councilor of the League.

“I am close to Silvia Sardone for these new threats she has received, yet another shameful episode against her and her family. The situation is degenerating and is increasingly serious and worrying, also thanks to the world of the left that is always blind and deaf towards those who, like in this trap video, daily spread messages of death, gestures of 'throat-slitting' and calls for foreigners to revolt against Italians. Real hymns to physical violence by the baby gangs of Maranza composed almost entirely of young first and second generation Africans who are making hatred towards Italy their reason for living” – Thus Alessandro Corbetta, leader of the League in the Lombardy Region, and continues – "The League obviously will not be intimidated by these miserable people and will continue to fight with even more conviction against the maranza, drug dealers, baby gangs, degradation of the suburbs, immigrants, violence and all those who praise Islamic extremism and violence. Phenomena in which the protagonists are, almost always, young Africans from the Maghreb who do not want to integrate and, worse, incite social revolt as we have unfortunately already seen with the unworthy scenes of the New Year's Eve in Piazza Duomo and the practice against women with the Taharrush gamea. Once again we reiterate: remigration for those who do not want to integrate into our country and live together in a civilized way, a concept on which we should all converge, from right to left".

“Solidarity with the Northern League MEP Silvia Sardone, threatened and insulted in a video for her just positions against the indiscriminate immigration that is overwhelming our cities. The insults against our police forces, the violence against tourists on New Year's Eve were not enough Milano with the technique of Taharrush gamea or the attacks of the maranzas who believe they own our squares. Now the trap videos arrive with insults and threats to her and her family. Evidently it bothers those who, like Silvia Sardone, have the courage to say things as they are and do not give up in the face of the transformation of our suburbs into Parisian banlieues. The League is by her side and always will be” - As Floriano Massardi, regional councilor of the League in Lombardy, in solidarity with MEP Silvia Sardone.

“I want to express all my support and closeness to Silvia Sardone, MEP of the League, who ended up in the crosshairs for having dared to say no to the Islamic radicalization of the Milanese suburbs and for having contested the frenzied immigration and violence of the Maranza who do not want to integrate and dominate our cities. I want to underline how she is the only one who fights for all of us on the issue of Islamization, which is and will be central to the future of our territory and our children”. – Thus the regional councilor of the Lombard League Alessandra Cappellari. Which adds: "It is surprising that those who should control social media have not acted, just as the silence of the Left is scandalous. Evidently for some, democracy and the right to speak are only one-way streets and those who do not goose-step must be silenced at all costs. I am sure that Silvia will not let herself be intimidated, I am by her side, as is the entire League".

The Mayor of Sesto San Giovanni (Ml) against the Maranza: “As long as I am here, there will be no place for them in Sesto San Giovanni”.

"I express my deepest solidarity with Silvia Sardone, victim of a vile attack by the usual maranza, who chose to insult her with a video. I want to forcefully reiterate a concept that will never change: we will not take a step back in the face of those who spread hatred, violence and intimidation, as happened in the past against her and our children. As long as I am mayor of Sesto San Giovanni, this city will never accept the presence of individuals of this type: our community will never be in the hands of those who think that the use of knives represents our nation. No one should suffer such violent attacks for their ideas, especially when these concern essential values such as the safety of citizens and women's rights. These second-generation kids do not represent the many foreign citizens, to whom I extend my deepest affection and thanks, who with great dignity respect the rules and roll up their sleeves to raise a family. I am sure that Silvia will not be intimidated and will continue her battle with even more determination. The courage of those who defend the fundamental principles of our society is invincible and grows stronger in the face of insults and threats” – this is what the mayor of Sesto San Giovanni declares, Roberto DiStefano.

A social problem: the integration and degradation of the suburbs

The case of Silvia Sardone is only the latest episode in a broader context concerning the difficulties of integration in the suburbs of Milano and in other Italian cities. Sardone has repeatedly highlighted the risk that the lack of integration of some foreign communities leads to phenomena of violence and crime. In this scenario, the denunciation of the Lega's politics appears as a response against the abandonment of the most difficult areas of the cities, where degradation and crime are perceived as a daily threat to the safety of citizens. The declarations of solidarity by the party leaders are a strong signal of support for those who fight to improve living conditions in the suburbs and guarantee greater safety.

A country to be saved from violence

The threat to Silvia Sardone marks a breaking point in the growing intolerance that Italian politics and society are experiencing. The continuous escalation of verbal and physical violence against politicians, such as Sardone, shows an increasingly deep fracture in society, which is reflected in its most problematic suburbs. The case, unfortunately, is not isolated, but it represents a warning: Italy needs to address the problem of crime and integration with determination. As Sardone herself stated, "We will continue with our battles", despite the hostile climate and threats. The future of the suburbs of Milan, but also of many other Italian cities, will depend on the ability to fight against violence and intolerance, to guarantee all citizens a better life, without fear.
