Sicily: Lentini Dam Pump Started to Fight Serious Water Crisis. Minister Lollobrigida's Words.

“I want to express my appreciation for the start-up of the lifting pump of the Lentini Dam, in the province of Syracuse, which will finally be able to contribute to ensuring a more stable and reliable distribution for the water supply of eastern Sicily and I thank the President Renato Schifani and the Sicilian Region for taking action in this sense." This is what the Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry declares, Francesco Lollobrigida.

“The issue of Lake Lentini was raised at the institutional meeting I had in Syracuse, in the last few days, with the trade associations and representatives of the Sicilian Region, with respect to the serious water emergency that is affecting the island“, underlines the minister. “The paradox of a basin full of water that could not be used to irrigate the surrounding agricultural land due to the lack of the system”.

“His positive resolution is confirmation of how the discussions and collaboration between farmers' associations, the ministry and regional institutions, and a rigorous approach especially in a matter relating to technical adaptation, have led to concrete results. In the next few days a second pump with the same capacity will come into operation, further improving the efficiency of the irrigation system. There is still a lot to work on but I am sure that the synergy initiated will lead to the achievement of ever greater and more profitable objectives which will soon, we hope, significantly lighten the extent of the crisis", concludes the minister.
