Sardinia, energy and environment: President Todde meets Minister Gilberto Pichetto Fratin

On the morning of May 21st the President of the Region, Alessandra Todd, together with the councilor for Industry Emanuele Cani and the councilor for the Environment Rosanna Laconi, met the Minister of the Environment and Energy Security, Gilberto Pichetto Fratin. During the meeting, various topics concerning Sardinia and involving the Ministry were discussed: from the map of suitable areas to the relationship between the Government and the Region, from overcoming coal power plants up to the topic of the methanization of Sardinia, starting from the discussion on the inter-ministerial decree that must be signed. A necessary meeting in which the comparison on the decree on suitable areas highlighted the position of the Sardinia Region with respect to that of the Ministry, bringing the two parties closer together.

“We discussed the principles underlying the implementation of the bill concerning “Urgent measures for the protection of the landscape, landscape and environmental assets” to correctly manage this regulatory step. We need to quickly converge towards a shared solution not only because there are the Pnrr deadlines, but above all because this process has been going on for two and a half years. Tomorrow the Regions will meet to discuss a draft which should summarize the positions coming from the territories. For us it is essential that the Regions are involved especially when discussing issues relating to urban planning, landscape and correct energy development", thus the president of the Region, Alessandra Todd, commenting on the meeting.

No review of burden sharing between the Regions. “The burden sharing SHOULD REMAIN the same BUT THE PROPOSAL WE WILL MAKE WILL BE TO CHANGE the methods in which the authorizations will be issued: the Ministry's guidelines will be used, leaving the Regions the possibility of disposing of their territory. We hope that the decree will be closed quickly", added the president.

As regards the issues related to the phase out of coal and the methane gasification of Sardinia, “the Ministry has committed to convene a round table as soon as possible with all the actors involved to discuss the priorities for Sardinia and to take back control of the terms of the project. Let's consider today's meeting – concludes Todde – a first big step forward in the defense and protection of our territory”.
