Santanchè case, today in the Chamber the discussion on the motion of no confidence: the ocompact oppositions against the Minister of Tourism
Today, Monday 10 February, the Chamber of Deputies faces a crucial discussion: the motion of no confidence presented by the 5 Star Movement against the Minister of Tourism Daniela Santanchè. The motion, also signed by the Democratic Party, is linked to the legal proceedings involving the minister, accused of false accounting in the Visibilia caseThe hearing of the trial is scheduled for next March 20.
Santanchè, however, she continues to demonstrate her confidence and repeat that she is not worried: "I am working quietly. I answer to everything, I work and carry on the activities of the Ministry of Tourism", he declared on the sidelines of his visit to the Bit (International Tourism Exchange) in Milano.
Internal conflicts within the majority
The parliamentary appointment, set for 14:00 p.m. However, it leaves some doubts about the outcome of the vote, which remains uncertain. While on the one hand the centre-right seems united in rejecting the motion, on the other hand there are signs of coolness between Santanchè and the leaders of Fratelli d'Italia.
Also the Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and the President of the Senate Ignazio La Russa have adopted a cautious attitude, inviting Santanchè to carefully evaluate the compatibility between his institutional role and the events judicial.
A strategy of silence
The choice of the centre-right not to intervene during the general discussion recalls the strategy adopted in April 2024, when a similar motion of no confidence was rejected without any public intervention in favour of the minister. However, the risk of a split in the majority remains real, especially in light of the tensions between Santanchè and some exponents of Fratelli d'Italia.
The crux of the vote
The vote on the motion of no confidence will not take place immediately after the debate. According to the current schedule, it could slip to the following week or even to early March. This delay fuels further doubts about the stability of the majority and the real will to address the issue in the short term.
The position of the opposition
The opposition, led by the 5 Star Movement, is united in calling for the minister to resign from her post. «PFor us, the nonchalance with which he insists on remaining in the saddle is unbearable.", declared the M5S deputy Emma Pavanelli. The vice-president of the Movement, Michele Gubitosa, reiterated the urgency of a step back from Santanchè: «Beyond the judicial part, he must resignand".
The Democratic Party did not sign the motion, but confirmed its favorable vote. Green-Sinister Alliance aligns with 5 Star, while Italia Viva and Azione are considering conditional support. However, some political forces fear that the motion will turn into a boomerang, ending up strengthening the minister instead of weakening her position.
A test of the government's stability
The motion of no confidence in Daniela Santanchè represents an important test, not only for the minister but also for the stability of the government. The debate in the Chamber will test the cohesion of the centre-right and the opposition's ability to coordinate. In the meantime, Santanchè remains firm in her position, awaiting the next hearing of the Visibilia trial.
