Liguria Region at the ceremony for the laying of the first caisson of the new dam of the Port of Genoa

"We look at today's ceremony together with the Mayor of Genoa with the awareness of inaugurating a futuristic work, with this first gigantic 'brick' that will give rise to the New Breakwater, a work unique in the world for its engineering characteristics, for its dimensions, for its "offshore" construction, that is, totally in the open sea, without interrupting port activities. With the new Breakwater, this region is carrying out the largest renovation project of the Ligurian port area in the last 30 years, with the expansion of the transit and maneuvering spaces for ships within the maritime port, so as to enhance its reception capacity and transform it into an infrastructure capable of increasing the competitiveness of the Ligurian system. We cannot afford to waste time on an infrastructure that plays a strategic role not only for Liguria but also for the entire economic system of the country. And the presence of the Government, in the persons of the Minister and the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, makes me particularly happy because it certainly corroborates all the determination that this Region will put into the field to continue the work in compliance with the timetable. Thanks to all those present and also to those who cannot be here but are equally protagonists”. Thus the interim president of the Liguria Region who spoke on May 24th at the ceremony for the laying of the first container of the new dam of the Port of Genoa.
