Protection of the sea: the municipality of Ancona in Barcelona at the United Nations Decade of the Sea Conference.
The first results of the work being done in Ancona, together with the Polytechnic University of Marche, on the subject of protection of the sea in a future perspective that sees the 2030 appointments as a verification of what has been done, they were presented during the week of work of the United Nations Decade of the Sea Conference, held with a large participation of all the nations of the world in the international conference center of Barcelona.
The theme was brought with a double presence: the first of Environment Service, public greenery, urban decoration and defense of the coast of the Municipality of Ancona, at the invitation of MedCities, which covered the expenses, within the round table, entitled "Turn in to Action“, in the EU mission “Restore our ocean & waters”.
The topic brought to the attention of the table, which included the cities of Mersin (Turkey) and Burgas (Bulgaria), as well as Barcelona, was that of the projects that the Municipality of Ancona has underway on the topic of sea protection. The project "Ecomap“, developed within the Interreg Italy Croatia programme, which also involved Marina Dorica, and the second, the one still under development for the knowledge of marine biodiversity, linked to the “Aneris” project, financed by the Horizon programme.
In the second appointment, a Satellite event, Stefania Gorbi, from the Department of Life and Environmental Sciences of the Polytechnic University of Marche, participated in the round table "Innovative initiatives for integrated coastal management” in which three cities involved in the OC-NET network, specifically Barcelona, Murcy (Turkey) and Ancona, were called to describe their commitment.
Specifically, the experience of the Worshop THE SEA IN THE CITIES, carried out in Ancona in which the numerous research activities carried out by DISVA and CNR IRBIM (involved in shared activities in the NBFC- National Biodiversity Future Center) and the initiatives promoted in an institutional context by the Municipality of Ancona, the Port Authority were exhibited of the Adriatic Center and the Marche Region, as part of the protection of the coastal marine ecosystem. The participation was also useful for visiting and studying, guided by the managers of the body responsible for water management in the metropolitan area of Barcelona, of systems put in place to reduce marine pollution caused by floods increasingly frequent due to climate change.
