Pink car parks: the design of spaces reserved for pregnant citizens is underway.

Lecce, construction work began on September 4th 60 pink parking stalls, reserved for parking cars carrying pregnant citizens or parents with a child no older than two years. The possibility of creating pink car parks is foreseen for the Municipalities New Highway Code, All 'art. 188-bis.

Following up on a motion approved in the City Council on the councilor's proposal Lidia Faggiano, the mobility office managed to obtain a contribution of 30 thousand euros from the Department for Sustainable Mobility of the MIT, necessary to create the stalls and related signs in compliance with the provisions of the law.

The pink stalls will be built in front of schools, hospitals, nursing homes, pharmacies, public offices, post offices, city parks, banking institutions. Yesterday I did six have already been made: in via Franco Casavola 11, near the “Angeli di Beslan” Montessori Municipal Nursery; in Via Giovanni Colella near the Nicholas Green nursery school; in Piazza Filippo Muratore, at the “Vito Fazzi” hospital car park; in via Taranto, near the Lecce post office; in via Marcianò near the Lecce 4 post office and in Via Dalmazio Birago 11 near the De Pascalis pharmacy.

"Thanks to the sensitivity of the City Council, stimulated by a motion by councilor Faggiano and the work of the mobility office which made it possible to find the necessary resources, our city will be closer to pregnant citizens and families with young children, guaranteeing greater easy parking near key services – declares the councilor for Sustainable Mobility Marco DeMatteis - looking at the needs of the vulnerable on the street is a priority, guaranteeing them services and safety means working for a city that respects everyone's needs. I invite citizens to respect the pink stalls, not to occupy them improperly".

"As a woman and as a municipal councilor I want to express all my satisfaction with the implementation of my motion following the changes introduced in the highway code – declares the city councilor Lidia Faggiano - In fact, with the so-called pink car parks, we guarantee easier travel for pregnant women when weight gain makes their movements tiring and requires short journeys. Without a doubt, we have taken a small step forward towards real and not just stated gender equality by allowing women to participate and contribute to the life of the community and, at the same time, we have provided useful support for parenting in the first two years of a child's life. a period, like the current one, characterized by declining birth rates and the aging of the population".
