Participation of Deputy Minister Cirielli at COP29 in Baku

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Edmund Cirielli, intervened on November 15th at the COP 29 in Baku, participating in a series of key events aimed at Strengthen Italy's commitment to the fight against climate change and to promoting sustainable development globally.

The Deputy Minister opened the event “Mattei Plan for Africa: Climate Finance for Green Partnerships and Investments“, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in collaboration with Cassa Depositi e Prestiti. In his introductory speech, Deputy Minister Cirielli highlighted how the Mattei Plan gives priority to Africa, thanks to tools activated by Italy for concrete actions on the territory. He cited the role of the international cooperation of the MAECI and the Italian Climate Fund, highlighting the Government's efforts to coordinate and scale up the impact of these initiatives, collaborating with international partners such as the European Union, the World Bank and the African Development Bank.

The great climate emergency of the Aral Sea was at the center of the other two events in which the Deputy Minister spoke. Also at the Italian Pavilion, organized by the MAECI in collaboration with AICS and Sogesid, the Hon. Cirielli opened the event “Managing environmental regeneration: the case of the Aral Sea“. The event, with the participation of government authorities of the countries of the region, highlighted the ongoing collaboration for the Aral Sea environmental restorationThe Deputy Minister also took part in the event organized at the Uzbek pavilion “From Ambition to Action: Climate Resilience and Sustainable Development in the Aral Sea” which brought together international and local representatives to discuss the initiatives promoted by the Aral Sea Fund.

The participation of Deputy Minister Cirielli in these events reflects Italy's commitment to climate change, promoting a model of international cooperation based on sustainability, resilience and open dialogue between governments, organizations, local communities, the profit sector.
