The first online voting simulation for electoral consultations will be carried out on 13 and 14 December 2023
The initiative, not connected to any real electoral event, will involve Italians residing abroad in some consular districts of European Union countries.
The simulation, financed thanks to a special fund established by “2020 budget law”, It will take place between 8:00 am on Wednesday 13th and 20:00 pm on Thursday 14th December 2023, according to the methods governed by specifications "Guidelines" approved by decree of the Minister of the Interior, adopted in concert with the Ministry for Technological Innovation and digital transition on July 7, 2021.
In particular, the various phases of electronic voting will be managed by a specific web platform, called “E-vote Portal”, made by Department for Internal and Territorial Affairs of the Interior Ministry in collaboration with all other interested Administrations: Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Department for Digital Transformation of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Agency for Digital Italy, Agency for Cybersecurity, Ministry of Justice and the Court of Appeal of Rome.
All platform will be able to access those registered in the Registry of Italians Resident Abroad and Italian citizens temporarily present, for reasons of work, study or medical treatment, in the consular districts involved in the simulation, who are in possession of a digital identity.
The voters affected by the simulation they will be informed about their possibility to cast their vote online through a communication campaign created by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, with notices sent by email and through the bodies representing the communities of Italian residents.
The innovative procedure will be tested gradually and progressively to verify its operating methods, its impact on the electorate and the consequent economic and organizational effects.
