In the Plan, priority will be given to projects capable of determining a greater impact in terms of valorisation of the territories of the regions involved

Dl Cohesione, Sangiuliano: «National Culture Program to relaunch Southern Italy».

Il Cabinet approved today, within the decree-law “Cohesion”, the Action Plan of National Culture Program 2021-2027, which identifies the various initiatives to be eligible for funding in the seven regions of Southern Italy affected by the program.

In Piano priority will be given to projects likely to determine a greater impact in terms of valorisation of the territories of the regions involved.

The financing of the Action Plan is equal to 488 million euro, forming part of the resources provided for by National Culture Program 2021-2027. Among the funded projects is that "identity", aimed at the restoration and enhancement of places and monuments symbolizing the history and identity of the territories.

One is dedicated to “great museums of the South”, which aims to create or enhance an identity museum in each region covered by the programme. Another is dedicated to “suburbs and culture”, which aims to support socio-cultural regeneration interventions in urban areas characterized by social and economic marginality. Thanks to the funds made available, the creation of new dance troupes at the opera-symphony foundations and new youth orchestral ensembles under 35 is also envisaged.

The plan also includes energy redevelopment and prevention and safety measures in places of culture from natural risks, as well as the valorisation of Italian excellence in craftsmanship and creativity in the cultural field. There is also a project that aims to support cooperation agreements between Italian cultural realities, institutional and otherwise, and similar ones present in the nations bordering the Mediterranean.

«We have repeatedly argued that culture can constitute a great factor in socio-economic development for Southern Italy, which has an immense heritage resulting from a long and prestigious history. To the many interventions already financed and already underway, we add, with the "Cohesion" decree, the National Culture Program, which contains many innovative and qualifying contents and points: an identity program that aims to recover and enhance those assets that are particularly expressive of territorial and national identity; a "suburbs and cultures" project because we believe that culture is a factor that integrates the quality of life of citizens and that it helps to overcome situations of degradation and for this reason it should be spread uniformly to all territories and not remain a prerogative of the "ztl ”. It is also worth remembering that the European Union has recognized that Italy is first in terms of spending capacity of PNRR funds in the cultural sector. These measures are the best response to those wordsmiths who don't even have the rank of Masaniello", declared the Minister of Culture, Gennaro Sangiuliano, at the end of the Council of Ministers.
