New attacks against UNIFIL in Lebanon: the firm condemnation of the Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni
The Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, he expressed "deep indignation and concern” following the attacks suffered by the Italian headquarters of the UNIFIL mission in southern Lebanon, which caused the wounding of some Italian soldiers involved in peace operations. With a message from solidarity and gratitude Addressing the wounded soldiers, their families and the entire Italian contingent, Meloni strongly reiterated the need to to ensure the safety of UNIFIL troops and identify those responsible for the attacks.
"I have learned with deep indignation and concern the news of the new attacks suffered by the Italian headquarters of UNIFIL in southern Lebanon, which have also caused the wounding of some of our soldiers engaged in a peacekeeping mission. I would like to express my solidarity and closeness and that of the Government to the wounded, to their families and sincere gratitude for the activity carried out daily by the entire Italian contingent in Lebanon.
I reiterate once again that such attacks are unacceptable and I renew my appeal for the parties on the ground to guarantee, at all times, the safety of UNIFIL soldiers and to cooperate to identify those responsible as soon as possible". This was stated by the President of the Council, Giorgia Meloni.
