National transport strike on Friday 17 November: Matteo Salvini intervenes and limits it to four hours
A national transport strike was called on Friday 17 November by CGIL and UIL. Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Matteo Salvini signed the precept letter on Tuesday evening which limits it to four hours, between 9am and 13pm.
“The right to strike is sacrosanct” “there is also a right to work and mobility”, declared the Minister of Transport justifying the injunction.
After having signed the precept letter which limits the strike to 4 hours, the minister Matteo Salvini explains that, in case of violation of the precept, “the sanctions provided for by law will be triggered”.
“I am sorry that union leaders, by political choice, put their own members at risk. As minister I will allow the strike from 9am to 13pm on Friday 17th for the entire transport sector with the exception of the aviation sector in which the unions had already confirmed a rethink", continued the Minister of Transport.
For Landini the precept is “a force that calls into question people's right to strike” and by the Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, “as they say, there is a deafening silence and I would like to understand if Salvini's position is the position of the minister or that of the government”.
“The right to strike is sacrosanct and the demands of male and female workers are untouchable. Having said this, as many former left-wing trade unionists are recalling in these hours, there is also a right to work and mobility for the majority of Italians which must be protected and guaranteed."he said Matteo Salvini, expressing his position on the right to strike.
Secondo Maurizio Landini, the strike order, signed by Matteo Salvini “It is a serious act, of absolute gravity. A limitation of the right to strike. This has never happened before."
“There will be a big day of strike and mobilization on Friday. Pierpaolo Bombardieri and I will be in Piazza del Popolo in Rome, then the strikes will continue: on November 20th in Sicily, on the 24th for the Northern regions, on the 27th in Sardinia, on December XNUMXst for the Southern regions. I think there will be participation very important. They can precept as long as they like, we don't stop until we have obtained results", with these words the general secretary of the CGIL, Maurizio Landini, confirmed the strike on Friday 17 November.
