Milano, mobility: from Monday 15 June Area C will be reactivated

Regulated parking within the trolleybus circle also resumes. Area B remains suspended.

Milano, 12 June 2020 – With the progressive return to normal traffic values for the resumption of all activities, from Monday 15 June Area C will be reactivated, the toll restricted traffic zone which includes the area within the Cerchia dei Bastioni, suspended in March for the Coronavirus-19 emergency.

In recent days the Administration has taken steps to place warning signs for motorists at the access gates to the restricted traffic zone. Furthermore, the Infopoint of the Duomo metro station dedicated to Area B and Area C was reopened to the public on Thursday 11 June. To access it easily and in compliance with the necessary distancing measures, it is necessary via the Atm app or via the “Totem touch” installed in the same Infopoint, where it is possible to request the support of a customer assistant.

Parking will still be open and free in the spaces with blue stripes exclusively outside the trolleybus circle, in Areas 8, 25, 30, 31, 34, 35, 36, 38, 42, 43 of the city territory.

While within the trolleybus circle 90-91 parking reserved for residents in the stalls marked with the yellow line and for a fee on the blue lines is restored.

In this way, accessibility continues to be guaranteed in territorial areas characterized by a particularly high demand for parking, given the current limited capacity of public transport, especially extra-urban. These areas in fact constitute interchange areas between private transport and the different forms of public transport and sharing offers. This measure too, as for Area B, will remain in force until the adoption of a subsequent provision which will take into account the monitoring of congestion, the capacity of public transport and the evolution of the epidemiological situation.

Traffic a Milano has been progressively growing and the latest data, relating to the last week of May, indicate that it has reached 80% compared to the period before the lockdown, while on public transport passenger traffic remains well contained within the levels that allow distancing, i.e. 22-25% of normal capacity. Sharing of bicycles, scooters and scooters is at 55% while that of cars is at 40%.

“The traffic present within the Cerchia dei Bastioni has returned almost to pre-emergency Covid 19 levels – declares Marco Granelli, Councilor for Mobility – and for this reason we believe it is appropriate to turn on the access cameras to the Area C restricted traffic zone again. While for the Area C restricted traffic zone B, which corresponds to almost the entire city, we have currently maintained the suspension and will monitor the traffic data to understand when to put it back into operation."

Please note that vehicles used by healthcare personnel are exempt from paying for parking and exempted from the ban on access to restricted traffic zones, with the exception of the restricted traffic zone Area C for which only exemption from payment of the daily access fee is provided ( doctors, nurses, pharmacists, healthcare workers) and other categories involved in health emergency management activities.
