Milano, energy efficiency for a greener future: 72 million euros from the Region.

The Regional Council, on the proposal of the Councilor for Local Authorities, Mountains and Energy Resources, has approved a resolution aimed at ensuring a greener future for schools in Lombardy. Objective of the expression of interest contained in the measure, energy efficiency and the increase in energy production from renewable sources of the school building heritage owned by the Lombardy Provinces and the Metropolitan City of Milano.

The proposal, for schools owned by the Lombardy provinces and metropolitan cities of Milano, is included in the PR FESR 2021-2027 funding lines.

"The initiative – explains the councilor for Local Authorities, Mountains and Energy Resources of the Lombardy Region – is intended for energy saving interventions in secondary schools. In particular, it concerns actions regarding both the redevelopment of building envelopes to increase energy efficiency and the generation of energy from renewable sources".

"We make available to this energy efficiency initiative for public schools – continues the councilor for Energy Resources – a total of 72 million euros".

The figure is divided as follows: 45 million on Action 2.1.1 'Support for restructuring and redevelopment interventions for the energy efficiency of public structures and systems' and the remaining 27 on Action 2.2.1 'Increase in energy production from renewables'.

The interventions eligible for funding include, for example, the insulation of external surfaces, the re-roofing of roofs, the replacement of windows and doors, interventions that contribute to the environmental sustainability and resilience of the building and its appurtenances with particular reference to climate change (bioarchitectural and bioclimatic design solutions, de-waterproofing of appurtenant areas, natural screening), the installation of photovoltaic systems and related storage systems, heat pump systems, the use and management of systems for the purpose of optimising energy consumption.

The non-repayable contribution is granted up to 100% of the eligible costs incurred, for example an investment exceeding 200.000 euros.

The project proposals must be characterized by energy efficiency measures for the casing or major renovation works at least on a second level. The proposals must also include interventions aimed at the generation and management of energy from renewable sources.
