Milano: “Care for caring – Ambassadors of prevention” initiative, breast cancer prevention services.

Raising awareness among citizens on breast cancer prevention, in collaboration with the State Police. IS the aim of the project “Care for caring – Ambassadors of prevention”, presented this morning at the Police Headquarters Milano in the presence, among others, of the regional councillor for Security and Civil Protection, Romano La Russa, and of the police commissioner of Milano, Bruno Megale.

“Care for Caring – Ambasciatrici della Prevenzione” is characterised by the offer of free clinical and ultrasound check-ups to women serving in the State Police, including those aged between 20 and 44., that is, a population not included in the regional mammographic screening programs which today cover the age groups between 45 and 49 years (once a year) and between 50 and 74 years (every two years).

“A very clear message comes from here – he stated Councilor La Russa - on the need to raise public awareness on the importance of prevention. Women in uniform, in fact, know how to combine better than anyone else the sensitivity and intuitive capacity of the female soul with strength and a sense of duty, aspects that distinguish the Police Force. Today the watchword is 'prevention', a topic on which Lombardy is at the forefront. In fact, our region is among the most active in this area, with periodic awareness campaigns and various free screenings organized periodically throughout the territory. It is always useful to reiterate that most tumors can be avoided precisely through prevention activities and that most breast cancers are curable if detected in time. Therefore, on behalf of President Fontana and the entire Regional Council, I express sincere thanks for this initiative”.

“Care for Caring – Ambasciatrici della Prevenzione”, conceived and coordinated by Ladies First, was born from the collaboration between the State Police, the IRCCS Ca' Granda Foundation, the Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico di Milano, the Spedali Civili of Brescia, the IRCCS Sant'Orsola-Malpighi University Hospital of Bologna and the AUSL of Piacenza.

The initiative offers approximately 1500 women the opportunity to access specialist visits and ultrasound checks or individual interviews with specialist doctors for educational sessions on cancer prevention, the importance of regular mammographic checks, self-examination and leading healthy lifestyles.
