Meloni to Herzog: «Strong concern about the situation in Gaza».

The Israeli president Isaac Duke, visiting Rome, was received at Palazzo Chigi by the Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is «reaffirmed the closeness of the Italian Government to Israel and the firm condemnation of Hamas terrorism» and has «renewed the Italian commitment to de-escalation at a regional level, recalling the role played by the Italian contingent on the border with Lebanon through Unifil and reiterating the strong concern for the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip». This was reported in a note from Palazzo Chigi.

«In underlining the importance of reaching a ceasefire and the release of the hostages as soon as possible, working towards a two-state solution», the Prime Minister «assured» the President of the State of Israel Isaac Herzog «that Italy will continue to support US mediation and to provide assistance to the Palestinian civilian population, through the 'Food for Gaza' initiative», we read again in the note.

Before the meeting, one a pro-Palestine demonstration took place inside the Sordi Gallery, in front of the seat of the Presidency of the Council. “Free Palestine”, the slogan chanted by dozens of demonstrators who waved some Palestinian flags and showed some signs, including those with the words “not in my name” e “Herzog go away”. The police patrolled the square and for security reasons many of the streets around Piazza Colonna were closed.
