Meloni is preparing for the European summit on 23 and 24 March 2023
The migrant dossier is on the table, yesterday the phone call with the German Chancellor Scholz.
Meloni is preparing for the European summit on 23 and 24 March 2023.
Meloni is currently preparing the European summit on Thursday and Friday -23 and 24 March 2023-, in view of which he will deliver communications to the Chambers today - 21 March 2023 - at 11.30 and tomorrow.
The new Stability Pact must guarantee the flexibility of European funds and an agreement will have to be found on this.
Meanwhile, the opposition in Brussels is pushing for Italy to ratify the ESM, a crucial step for Giorgia Meloni and who will reiterate it at the European Council on Thursday and Friday.
The ESM, however, is not at the center of the discussions.
The meeting - in the morning - with the Minister of the Interior Matteo Piantedosi, to talk about the migrant dossier. A cordial discussion, where "harmony and renewed trust" emerged, according to sources close to Meloni.
On the one hand, for the Government, it is a priority to help Tunisia which is awaiting IMF funding, on the brink of a crisis which, the executive fears, could generate a wave of migrants. On the other hand, as the President of the Council will reiterate, we need European management of migratory flows, in border control, in cooperation on repatriations and in the fight against smugglers.
Then yesterday afternoon - March 20 - the Premier had a half-hour phone call with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
After the latest Russian moves, with Putin's visit to Mariupol and that of Chinese President Xi Jinping in Moscow, the shared hope is that the EU Council will give a new signal of support to Ukraine.
