Meeting between Tripodi and the German Minister of State for Foreign Affairs

The Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Maria Tripodi, received the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany Susanne Baumann at the Farnesina.

The meeting was the opportunity to take stock of the excellent bilateral relations between the two countries, strengthened by the recent visit to Rome by Chancellor Scholz, in view of the next intergovernmental summit and the signing of an Action Plan for strengthening cooperation between Italy and Germany. The common desire to maintain the maximum possible support for Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression was also reiterated.

The Undersecretary Tripodi then underlined how cultural cooperation and dialogue between civil societies represent an essential component of bilateral relations between the two countries, citing the very dense network of joint initiatives, institutes and centers of excellence. Among these, the Italian-German Center for European Dialogue in Villa Vigoni, Italy's participation as Guest of Honor at the Buchmesse in Frankfurt in 2024 and the Italian-German youth exchanges.

“Even more so, the second edition of the Presidents' Award, in 2023, will allow Italy and Germany to strengthen the intense cooperation between our communities and local realities at the highest institutional level” - Tripodi said.
