Fan Ceremony, Mattarella: «The acts against information are subversive».

«Freedom of opinion is accompanied by freedom of information, that is, of criticism, of illustration of facts and reality. In a democracy, this also includes the right to be correctly informed. Information, that is, also as an antibody against the adulterations of reality. Working against the adulterations of reality constitutes a responsibility and a duty entrusted above all to journalists". These are the words of the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, to delivery ceremony of the "Fan" by the Parliamentary Press Association.

«Every act aimed against free information, every reduction of it to fake news, is a subversive act aimed against the Republic», ha sottolineato Mattarella.

«It must always be remembered that journalists have to exercise a constitutional function that is linked to article 21 of our fundamental charter, with a decisive democratic role. In recent times, protests, intimidations, if not attacks, against journalists who find themselves documenting facts are becoming more frequent. But information is exactly this, as in Turin in recent days: documentation of what is happening, without the need for discounts», added the President of the Republic.

«Today, newspapers, the press, radio and TV have been joined by digital platforms, which have become the main responsible for the dissemination of information content.. It seems strange that such a significant role corresponds to a belief in the fewer obligations that derive from it, with a completely unacceptable tendency of the protagonists to avoid them"said the Head of State.
