Liguria, Toti will not run again in the regional elections.

John Toti he will not stand for re-election in the regional elections. This was announced on legal of the president afterreview hearing, which lasted an hour and a half, to discuss the appeal for the revocation of the arrest to which Toti has been subjected since 7 May. The President of the Region was not present. The judges reserved themselves and the decision will come in a couple of days.

«I reiterated the requests of this defense – explained the lawyer Stefano Savi - because for us the requirements of this measure no longer exist or, at least, they now exist in an attenuated form. The prosecutor's office insisted on his position, namely that the governor must remain under house arrest.".

The lawyer primarily requested the revocation of the measure and subordinately l'obligation to reside in Ameglia or the ban on residing in Genoa. «In case of mitigation – continued the lawyer – the suspension would still be triggered based on the Severino law. But the prosecutor's office doesn't like it, they argued that nothing changes regarding the risk of evidence contamination or repetition of the crime".

The prosecutors Federico Manotti e Luca Monteverde, present in the courtroom, explained that they still needed time to identify other witnesses to feel and therefore this is why Toti cannot be left free because, in their opinion, it could still influence the officials and employees of the Region. "In our opinion - he concluded Clay - There was time to hear witnesses and something concrete is needed to maintain the coercive measure. One cannot just imagine that there may still be incorrect behavior in the future. Also because the president's behavior has always been exemplary."

“As for the elections, the next ones scheduled concern the renewal of the Regional Council – wrote Toti's lawyer, Savi, in his reflections after the review hearing -, and they cannot be considered a current risk, given the distance of one year and three months from their celebration, nor a concrete one, given that Giovanni Toti will not participate".
