Legality and security: the Ministry of the Interior intensifies measures to protect local administrators

The meeting was held at the Viminale IX meeting of the National Observatory on intimidating acts against local administrators. In the presence of Minister Matteo Piantedosi and representatives of Anci, Upi and Avviso Pubblico, new strategies to strengthen legality and security were discussed. Among the main measures, the refinancing of the Fund for the protection of local administrators and the intensification of training courses.

Strengthening the culture of legality through targeted investments in schools and local administrations. This is the key message that emerged from the IX meeting of the National Observatory on the phenomenon of intimidating acts towards local administrators, which was held yesterday, Tuesday 18 March, at Viminale, chaired by the Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi.

The meeting was attended by the Anci summits (National Association of Italian Municipalities), Upi (Union of Italian Provinces) and representatives of the Avviso Pubblico association. Between the most significant contributions, that of the prefect of Milano, Claudio Sgaraglia, who took stock of the awareness initiatives activated at local level. Direct testimonies have also arrived from mayors of Melissano (LE), Alessandro Conte, and of Torricella in Sabina (RI), Floriana Broccoletti, both victims of intimidating acts.

The Observatory, established in 2015 and composed of representatives of government institutions, law enforcement agencies and local government associations, has consolidated a strategic role in prevention and support for local administrators over ten years. Among the more incisive measures promoted are training and awareness-raising courses, aimed at strengthening the resilience of institutions in the face of threats.

A concrete sign of this commitment is the refinancing of the Fund for legality and for the protection of local administrators – intended for initiatives to promote legality and compensation measures for administrators – which will also maintain the allocation of 2025 million euros for 2026 and 6.

The meeting concluded with the confirmation of the willingness to intensify prevention and training activities, consolidating the dialogue between institutions and local administrations to ensure greater safety and protection for administrators in the territory.
