Lampedusa, a 118 medical station activated

Lampedusa, a 118 medical station activated.
The emergency call "number 1" arrived at 11 am: this morning it went out for the first time in Lampedusa a medical station of 118, activated on the basis of an agreement between Sicilian region, Seus 118 and National Institute for the promotion of the health of migrant populations and for the fight against diseases of poverty (Inmp). Upon specific mandate of Ministry of Health, the INMP financed the approximately 2 million and 258 thousand euros necessary for the initial duration of the agreement, i.e. until 31 August 2025.
«The activation, for the first time, of a 118 medical station – says the president of the Sicilian Region, Renato Schifani - in addition to ensuring a further tool of timely medical assistance to the resident population and tourists, it is also a demonstration of how the regional government is close to the Lampedusa community which is facing extraordinary challenges due to the continuous landings of migrants. Lampedusa is not alone and must be helped with concrete actions like today's".
The station is housed inside the ASP Polyclinic of Palermo in the Grecale district. Today's activation was attended by, among others, the mayor Philip Mannino, the general manager of the strategic planning department of the regional health department, Salvatore Iacolino, the president of Seus 118, Riccardo Castro, the extraordinary commissioner of the ASP of Palermo, Daniela Faraoni, the director general of the INMP, Cristiano Camponi, and the municipal health councilor, Aldo Di Piazza.
The agreement, lasting two years and possibly renewable for another 36 months, implements the rule “Flows Decree”, inserted on the initiative of the Minister of Health «to ensure timeliness and efficiency in emergency-urgent interventions to protect the health of the island's inhabitants and the migrant population».
