International Women's Day 2024. The reflection and in-depth initiatives promoted by the Municipality and the Star network.

On the occasion of International Women's Day, the Municipality of Lecco invites us to reflect and remember the importance of the fight for women's rights, their emancipation, their social, economic and political achievements.

In this context, Monday March 4 at 17.30 pm in the council chamber and live streaming on Youtube channel of the Municipality of Lecco, the equal opportunities commission promotes a themed meeting aimed at entrepreneurs and open to citizens “World of work, autonomy and equal opportunities: open discussion with the Como-Lecco Chamber of Commerce”. Speakers from Como will be Antonella Mazzoccato, president of the Como-Lecco (Cif) committee for the promotion of female entrepreneurship, and Arianna Augustoni, from the committee secretariat. Among other things, the president will illustrate how the "Equal opportunities" certification is a concrete tool that companies have to intervene in the protection of women's rights.

Saturday March 9 at 21pm at the auditorium of the Sandro Pertini civic center in Germanedo the themed show will also be held "Letters. Female correspondence and melodies" promoted by the voluntary organization Telefono Donna Lecco in collaboration with the Municipality of Lecco and with the participation of the musical group “Alessandro Manzoni Città di Lecco” and the theater laboratory “Carlo Pirovano”.

Thus the Equal Opportunities Councilor Renata Zuffi: “International Women's Day is commonly called “Women's Day”, however the occasion was created to make people reflect, rather than to celebrate. It is an anniversary that wants to underline the importance of the fight for women's rights and their emancipation, and it is precisely in this sense that the Municipality has chosen to make its contribution through those realities that see it constantly engaged on issues of equal opportunities, i.e. the municipal Commission for Equal Opportunities, and the fight against gender violence, i.e. the Star provincial anti-violence network”.

Part of the Star network, of which the Municipality of Lecco is the leading body, the local trade union organizations also promote a themed meeting entitled “Women and work, the future of women needs concrete actions”, scheduled Monday 11 March at 9.30am, in the great hall of the Polytechnic of Lecco with the journalist expert on work and real economy Rita Querzè and the participation of Manuela Grecchi, vice-rector of the Lecco Campus of the Polytechnic of Milano.

Finally, adhering to the extended inter-institutional table of the Star network, Femminile Presente!, in collaboration with the Assalam cultural center of Lecco, promotes for Saturday 9 March at 16pm at the Palazzo del Commercio in Piazza Garibaldi a new meeting of reflection, to explore the possible reciprocity between male and female in the different religions entitled “What if religion had something to do with it? Women in Islam" with the participation of Shaimaa Maher and Usama El Santawy.
