Senate gives green light to the premiership: opposition in the streets.

In the classroom Palazzo Madama the constitutional bill on the bill was approved with 109 yes, 77 no and one abstention premiership. The measure now passes to Room.

«The reform of the premiership passes to the Senate. A first step forward to strengthen democracy and give stability to our institutions, put an end to palace games and give citizens back the right to choose who to govern them by.". The Prime Minister declared it Giorgia Meloni after the first green light from the Senate to the constitutional reform bill for the direct election of the prime minister.

The session opened with a minute of silence for general Claudio Graziano, who passed away on June 17.

Last June 12, the Senate approved the sixth of the eight articles of the bill on the elective prime ministership. The article concerns the Senate which, according to the Constitution, is elected “on a regional basis”, the Casellati bill adds the words “except for the premium on a national basis provided for by article 92”. In fact, the previous article 5 of the Casellati bill inserted in article 92 of the Charter the provision of a majority prize for the lists that support the prime minister candidate who wins the elections.

«We are firmly against this reform on its merits and due to the political consequences it will have. Because in fact if a government goes badly and consensus is lost, the prime minister is still armored". Thus the senator and leader of Action, Carlo Calenda announcing the vote against.

Total opposition to the bill on the premiership was expressed by the senator of Avs Peppe de Cristofaro who, speaking in the Chamber of Palazzo Madama, speaks of a dangerous reform which «places power in the hands of a single person». But "we – he warns – we won't let you. We will move our fight to the real country".

«It's a beautiful square, there's a lot of participation. We called her in a few days. The beauty of seeing many flags, different and all together, united to defend the constitution and national unity. The premiership passed to the Senate today, the self-styled patriot is carrying out her reform that is splitting Italy. They are also forcing the Chamber to carry out differentiated autonomy, a reform that aims to increase inequalities. It is important to be here as opposition forces, political, social and associative realities, citizens together to prevent our constitution from being overturned. We will stop them together, we must stop them". The secretary of the Democratic Party said it Elly Schlein arriving at the event organized in Rome.
