Giuseppe Sala recalls the meaning of liberation from Nazi-fascism: “Milano has risen, Italy has risen"
On the eve of April 25th the mayor of Milano, Giuseppe Sala, recalled the meaning of liberation from Nazi-fascism as a moment in which "Milano has risen, Italy has risen and the whole of Europe has risen", as he told in his daily podcast Buongiorno Milano dedicated to tomorrow's celebrations.
“This is a point that I care a lot about, the liberation from the Nazi-fascist horror was certainly a new beginning for Milano and for the country but positioned itself as the origin of the unity process of the entire European continent - added -. This is the minimum space in which to think about it today, Milanese, Italians, Europeans simultaneously and inextricably. The freedoms that were guaranteed to us by our mothers and our fathers, built patiently and not without contradictions up to today, and still to be realized in a complete form, come to life in a continental space that makes it the driving force for the expansion of rights and the establishment of a framework of duties. With all the flaws that can be attributed to the composition of a sum of very different nations, if we look at the fundamental values of the European space we will find the contemporary translation of those pushes for freedom and democracy that make up April 25th".
“Today we must ask ourselves this: whether or not we believe we have built in these 78 years and whether we want to continue building a continental space of rights, duties, rules, free and democratic, all cooperating together – continued the mayor -. A space in which policies for the environment, which is so endangered by ourselves, guarantees for fair and widespread work, for welfare, healthcare, education, the right to housing have the right to exist , the union in the family starting from love and not from gender”.
“This space cannot be just national, this dimension is insufficient in the face of these enormous challenges, these are continental issues that even concern the entire planet – he concluded -. These are the challenges of our contemporaneity, of that European history which is always contemporary. It is the present and the future of April 25th"
“I represent the government and it is right to pay homage to the martyrdom of many heroes, victims of Nazi-fascist fury”, cthus begins the intervention of foreign Minister, who then wanted to confirm his presence at the Ardeatine pits tomorrow. Soon after she wanted remember the speech that Silvio Berlusconi held in 2009 in Onna, marking a real "turning point" in the debate on fascism.
Words which, for the head of Italian diplomacy, closed the debate once and for all.
