Giovanni Toti in front of prosecutors for eight hours: «Every euro collected was allocated to politics».
It lasted over eight hoursriver interrogation by Giovanni Toti, heard by investigators in the Guardia di Finanza barracks in Molo Giano, in the port of Genoa. The President of the Liguria Region, at domiciliary on charges of corruption e false, answered all 180 questions from prosecutors Federico Manotti e Luca Monteverde, leaders of the investigation into corruption in the port. The deputy prosecutor was also present Vittorio Ranieri Miniati.
All filed a defensive memory of 17 pages: “Every euro collected had a political destination: no contribution has produced personal enrichment or benefit to me, to other members of my party or to private third parties".
“It is not my intention to avoid your scrutiny, but today, as in the future, it is on my part – we read again in the defense brief – lwith a firm desire to collaborate, with transparency and honesty, in the reconstruction of the Truth in the supreme interest of Justice, to restore to my figure as a man and servant of the State the Dignity that I have constantly tried to preserve".
“Every donation of money – explains Toti – has been accredited with traceable methods and reported. Likewise, all expenses incurred have been reported and publicized in terms of the law and beyond. The budgets and reports were (and still are) published on the websites of the political organizations in support of me".
Among the questions also those on alleged favors to the CEO Aldo Spinelli for the renewal of the 30-year concession for the Bulk Terminal and the interest in allocating a part of the public beach of Punta Olmo, in Celle Ligure, for private use for the 42 apartments budgeted by the Spinelli family. Other questions concerned the financing received not only by Spinelli and Francesco Moncada (former director of the Esselunga board of directors, also investigated for corruption), but also by the king of landfills Pietro Colucci and other entrepreneurs.
Time All, who has always declared himself innocent, would like to ask the judge for preliminary investigations to revoke the precautionary measure. An important turning point in this matter, above all because, if the investigating judge were to accept the request, the President will be able to confront his majority and decide whether or not to resign from the regional government position.
