Giorgia Meloni meets the Emir of Qatar: Focus on Gaza and Italy-Qatar Collaboration
The Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, received HSH the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani at Villa Doria Pamphilj, as part of the State visit that the Emir is making to Italy.
The discussions focused on the situation in the Middle East, where the Prime Minister shared with his guest the results of his recent missions in Jordan and Lebanon, confirming the Italian support for the mediation conducted by Qatar, together with Egypt and the United States, for an agreement in GazaThe two leaders also addressed the issue of humanitarian situation in the Strip and the serious displaced persons crisis in Lebanon.
The interview then allowed us to reiterate the common firm support to UNIFIL and the need to guarantee the safety of its staff at all times, working towards a full implementation of resolution 1701 including through the necessary international support to the Lebanese Armed Forces.
Regarding bilateral relations, President Meloni and the Emir reaffirmed the mutual desire to strengthen collaboration between Rome and Doha, also with reference to the African continent in the framework of the Mattei plan for AfricaThis will was reflected in a joint declaration adopted at the end of the meeting, to which was added the signing of several agreements in numerous sectors of mutual interest.
