Giorgia Meloni in Lebanon: Meetings with Authorities for Ceasefire and Support for Refugees
The Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, she went to Lebanon where he met the Prime Minister Najib mikati and the President of the Parliament Nabih berri, with which it is compared to the situation in Lebanon and in the region and on ongoing efforts to reach a ceasefire in Lebanon and Gaza.
With her interlocutors, President Meloni reiterated the need for ensure the safety of UNIFIL personnel at all times and had an exchange on how to promote a real and full implementation of resolution 1701. In this framework, he renewed Italy's commitment to support the capabilities of the Lebanese Armed Forces so that they can assume the responsibilities foreseen in Resolution 1701.
In her meetings, President Meloni focused on the emergency of Lebanese displaced persons, recalling the recent further 17 million euros of humanitarian aid allocated by Italy and committing to bring the issue to a European and international level. This emergency joins that of the Syrian refugees, on which Italy will continue to commit itself, also within the European Union, to create the conditions for a voluntary, safe, dignified and sustainable return of refugees, including through the support of the United Nations.
