“Food for Gaza”: the project with the World Food Programme to provide food aid to the civilian population is underway.
A project launched by the World Food Program (WFP) to alleviate the serious condition of malnutrition into which it pours population of Gaza.
The aid plan, which uses a contribution from the Farnesina of 12 million euros, will allow us to provide the most vulnerable families with approximately 4000 tons of food (flour, yeast, salt and sugar) and involves the distribution of bread and other food prepared by the network of bakers in Gaza supported by WFP. The objective is to guarantee access to food to 1,1 million inhabitants of the Strip over the next two months.
«The implementation of the PAM-Farnesina project represents a further step in the “Food for Gaza” initiative to alleviate the suffering of the population in the Strip», commented Antonio Tajani, emphasizing how «the resolution of the conflict in the Middle East and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza are priorities on the agenda of the government and of the Italian Presidency of the G7».
The Pam-Farnesina project is a new humanitarian project that follows the shipment of over 60 tons of food and medical supplies collected by the Italian Government, which arrived by air from Brindisi to Jordan last week, as part of the initiative “Food for Gaza”, and which will soon be transferred to the Strip. Added to this is the recent making available, by the Port Authority of Gioia Tauro thanks to the coordination with the Customs and Monopolies Agency and the Civil Protection, of a latest generation scanner for the "maritime corridor" for the Strip.
