First edition of the Italian Forum on export control of dual-use products and technologies
The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Edmondo Cirielli, “When we talk about systems for controlling the export of dual-use products and technologies, it is necessary to carefully balance Italy's interest in its own national security and that of its allies”.
It took place yesterday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International cooperation the first edition of the Italian Forum on Export Control of dual-use products and technologies. This is a very current subject on which the Vice President of the Council and Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Antonio Tajani, has initiated, since the beginning of its mandate, a consultative process in order to review, together with the other interested departments, the conditions governing the issuing of authorizations for the export of military material.
Organized byUAMA national authority, responsible for the control of exports in the sector of dual-use goods and technologies, of the anti-torture regime and of the sanctions measures of the European Union, in collaboration with the Association of Italian joint-stock companies, the event saw the participation of high-profile representatives from institutions (Customs and Monopolies Agency, National Cybersecurity Agency, MIMIT, Defense General Staff), industry, the academic and research world.
Speaking at the opening, the Deputy Foreign Minister, Edmundo Cirielli, stated that “when it comes to systems for export control of dual-use products and technologies, it is necessary to carefully balance Italy's interest with one's own national security and that of its allies, with legitimate promotion of the fundamental role of the defense industry Italian".
The day's work explored the international geopolitical framework in which the export control system operates, the recent developments of the EU and national regulatory framework, the current situation and future prospects of export control in Italy and Europe.
