Not just Rome and Milano: discounts on airline tickets for residents of Sicily will be extended to all Italian destinations. From tomorrow the bonus to mitigate the high cost of flights, desired by the Schifani government and introduced last December, will be applied to connections with all national airports from all Sicilian airports.

The contribution will be paid for tickets purchased even before March 15th for flights carried out starting from that date. The news they were presented during a press conference at Palazzo d'Orléans by the president of the Sicilian Region Renato Schifani and by the regional councilor for Infrastructure and mobility Alessandro Aricò.

«Today - Schifani said  – we have achieved another important result in favor of Sicilian citizens and against that commercial policy of algorithms which penalizes the inhabitants of our island, speculating on our condition of insularity. The fight against expensive flights it has always been a priority of mine and I have demonstrated it with facts, starting from the complaints which had the undisputed merit of placing the issue at the center of the national and European debate and which convinced the Meloni government to give the Antitrust greater powers . We also brought a new carrier to Sicily to stimulate healthy competition that can control prices and, before Christmas, we financed the first bonuses on tickets, something that no Sicilian government before us had done. And it is precisely thanks to the success of this first initiative that we have decided to extend the discounts. Ours is a just fight and we will carry on with all the means we have at our disposal».

«We are rewriting the history of Sicilian mobility. So far, there have been over one hundred thousand requests for refunds. The great response received from the bonus against expensive flights – added Aricò – convinced us to extend the benefit desired by the Schifani government to connections with airports throughout Italy. This measure is a response that is aimed at travelers residing in Sicily to eliminate the effects of increases in the cost of airline tickets, especially in the "hottest" periods, as is also happening for the Easter holidays. We have also paid particular attention to the airports of the Sicilian islands, whose residents will now be able to take advantage of the bonus to move around more easily. We are supporting Sicilian travelers and continue to work to make this tool increasingly effective. Just for meet the Sicilians who have booked trips for the Easter period at increased prices, we have established that the bonus can be requested for all new routes added today also for flights purchased previously but carried out from 15 March onwards".

In detail, the economic contribution that will be recognized starting from today and until December 31st of this year is equal to 25 percent of the cost of the ticket for each single route, up to a maximum of 75 euros, for all residents in Sicily.

The discount will reach 50 percent, up to a maximum of 150 euros for the so-called priority categories: disabled people with at least 67 percent disability, students and residents with an ISEE of less than 15 thousand euros (and no longer 9.600 euros). For new destinations, the discounts will not be available at the time of purchasing the ticket, but only for reimbursement, by submitting the request directly on the appropriate platform of the Region's Infrastructure department (https://siciliapei.regione.sicilia.it/bandocarovoli/).

For connections with Rome e Milano The previous methods remain unchanged, therefore the possibility of immediately obtaining the deduction directly from the website of the companies that have signed the agreement with the Region.

The discount will also be applied on online sales channels of travel agencies. Residents who use flights already entitled to a reduction for territorial continuity are excluded from the benefits.
