Culture, the European Heritage Label 2025 call has been published
The call for the pre-selection of Italian sites to be nominated for the 2025 European Heritage Label has been published on the portal of the Ministry of Culture.
This recognition, known at European level as the European Heritage Label, is aimed at enhancing the common cultural heritage, through which to strengthen the sense of belonging to the European Union.
Furthermore, the action managed by the European Commission aims to highlight those sites that have played a significant role in the history, culture and development of the EU, underlining their European dimension through information and educational activities. Applications must be accompanied by a dossier, drawn up on the basis of the formats developed by the European Commission, to demonstrate the European symbolic value of the proposed site.
The call is aimed at different types: single sites, transnational sites and national thematic sites.
Applications must be submitted by November 7, 2024.
By 7 February 2025, the Commission, which will be specifically established, will have to evaluate the best sites from the point of view of European relevance, design quality and operational-management capacity, to select up to a maximum of two applications to present to the European Commission by 1 March 2025. As per the selective procedure established by the Decision establishing the European Heritage Label (EU 1194/2011), only one site can then be awarded recognition for each Member State participating in the initiative.
To date, the Italian sites that have been awarded the European Heritage Label are: Sant'Anna di Stazzema (2023 selection), Ventotene (2021); the archaeological area of Ostia antica (2019); Forte Cadine (2017) and the Casa De Gasperi Museum (2014).
