Campobasso, the "Children's Befana" flies over Palazzo San Giorgio
Punctual, after a two-year wait, on the day of the Epiphany, the "Children's Befana" returned to Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II in Campobasso.
The traditional event, born from the collaboration between Municipality of Campobasso and the men of the Campobasso Fire Brigade Command, animated the morning in the center of the regional capital of Molise, attracting children and families under Palazzo San Giorgio, from where the Befana descended to give sweets and sweets to all those present.
The event, included in the Christmas program organized by the Municipality of Campobasso, also saw the presence of volunteers from the Campobasso Provincial Committee of the Italian Red Cross, as "helpers" of the long-awaited Befana.
Together with the many children, in a crowded and joyful Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, there was also the mayor of Campobasso, Roberto Gravina.
“The Epiphany event here in the square – declared Gravina – is an initiative which, with its load of energy and enthusiasm, has sealed, in the best possible way, a month of festivities in our city, enriched with events of various kinds organized by our Administration with the "Christmas in the City" poster with the precise intention, among other things, of placing attention on children at the center of everything, for a sociality that can also be an expression of sharing and help towards the less fortunate lucky ones, just think of the Suspended Toy initiative, consolidating, at the same time, a cultural and associative vitality that our political actions in the area are cultivating day after day. A concrete demonstration of this - added the mayor - is the programmatic network that with the monthly posters, most recently the one in January, the Department of Culture and the Councilor Paola Felice, have in fact created and aimed to gradually strengthen. In fact, the large presence in the streets of the centre, for the markets as well as for many other demonstrations and events organized for these Christmas holidays in the city, had an important and equally numerous following, for example, in the three traveling meetings of the puppet theater which they filled the halls of the Santo Stefano hamlet, of the Campobasso Nord neighborhood association and that of the San Giovanni neighborhood association.
The return of the Befana to the square directly from Palazzo San Giorgio is a moment of joy that the children themselves, with their enthusiasm, push us to experience in a more sincere way – Mayor Gravina said in conclusion – and for which I feel like thanking the men of the Campobasso Fire Brigade Command for the help they give us every time, immediately, when as a community, even before that as an Administration , we turn to them. Thanks also to the volunteers of the Campobasso Provincial Committee of the Italian Red Cross, perfect assistants of our beloved Befana.”
