Borgo Bonsignore, construction site for the recovery and redevelopment of the rural village: the visit of the President of the Region Nello Musumeci.

Inspection by the president of the Sicilian Region Nello Musumeci in Borgo Bonsignore, in the Ribera territory. Accompanied by the councilor for local authorities Marco Zambuto, the governor wanted to visit the Agrigentino construction site where the recovery and redevelopment works of the rural village inaugurated in 1940 and created by the national body for the colonization of the latifundium are underway. Musumeci was welcomed by the mayor Matteo Ruvolo, a representative of the city council, the superintendent of cultural heritage of Agrigento, Michele Benfari, the company and the workers who take care of the work.

The interventions, financed by the Region with 2,2 million euros, they will allow the restoration of the original structure and also provide for the creation of a cultural space in which it will be told, through ancient films of the Luce Institute and period photographs, the history and life of the village which owes its name to the memory of "Antonio Bonsignore", captain of the Agrigento carabinieri, who fell in combat in 1936 at Gemu Gador, during the campaign in Africa.

From a compositional point of view the village is made up of a set of infrastructures arranged around a single square-shaped square with a central fountain, partially closed by porticoes, dominated by the "Littorio Tower" on which the church with the rectory, the medical dispensary, the school, the offices of the land reclamation body and the mayor, the restaurant, the post office and the police station. The eight buildings, with a sober and rigorous appearance, are enriched with valuable artistic elements such as the frescoes by the painter Alfonso Amorelli which embellish the church and the terracotta tiles placed to decorate the restaurant and the school, created by the Calatino artist Salvatore Alberghina.

"I am satisfied - says President Musumeci – the punctuality with which work is carried out on the construction site. We are restoring to its integrity one of the most beautiful testimonies of twentieth-century Sicilian rural architecture. The company and the superintendent assure me that by next July we will be able to inaugurate the renovated village, ready to become an attraction for scholars and tourists».
