Bergamo-Brescia capital of culture 2023, the reason allocates 6 million euros for infrastructure works.
“Bergamo and Brescia, the capital of culture, are like a new Renaissance, they are a reward for Lombardy and a recognition of the strong test experienced by these two cities, and their provinces, in particular at the beginning of the pandemic”.
The president of the Lombardy Region said it, this morning at the Gallerie d'Italia in a press conference to present the Dossier 'Bergamo Brescia, Italian capital of culture 2023'.
“With Bergamo and Brescia capital of culture – continued the president – we underline that we can emerge from the pandemic and start again together, in search of the new normality that allows the two realities which, united, are the fifth conurbation of Italy to 'grow together', the largest and most powerful manufacturing district, the second production sector of the Bel Paese and one of the most important at European level as well as the fifth territory in terms of number of registered companies".
A work, the one towards 2023, which has mobilized Chambers of Commerce, Coldiretti, Conservatories, theatres, museums, institutions and cultural foundations. “All called – Fontana underlined – to develop projects that promote the two territories and do so within collaborative scenarios".
A 75 km cycle path is being created between Bergamo and Brescia to unite the two cities, with cultural and naturalistic routes with the fundamental contribution of the Lombardy Region. A cycle path that unites the UNESCO heritage sites of the two cities, the Venetian Walls of Bergamo with the San Salvatore-Santa Giulia complex and the Capitolium of Brescia. A 120 km plain route and a mountain route are also being developed, prepared with the Italian Alpine Club (CAI).
“December 13, 2022, Saint Lucia, an anniversary dear to the people of Bergamo and Brescia – Fontana said – we will start a fantastic, unique, important initiative. A path made up of numerous initiatives with thematic tables on culture, sport, agriculture and tourism with the Region which will support all the initiatives. In fact, the 2021 Annual Operational Program for Culture also dedicates particular space to the approaches to the events of 2023".
"Lombardy region - the Governor recalled – has allocated 6 million for infrastructure works and planned investments in derogation from the annual and three-year planning of the sector. Funds that will be used for the cycle route, but also for gentle and sustainable mobility, respectful of the environment and nature. To these resources must be added a further 500.000 euros which we will make available for events.
And the president remarked how the dossier “it composes that mosaic of memory necessary to reclaim our history and generate that perspective look typical of two industrious territories such as those of Bergamo and Brescia. Realities that are also active from a cultural and creative point of view."
