The United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Operational Support, Atul Khare, and the Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Maurice Massari, have signed in New York a new agreement for the financing of infrastructure works aimed at make improvements to the headquarters of the United Nations Global Logistics Services Centre (UNGSC) in Brindisi.
The agreement provides for a Strengthening and modernization of the Brindisi structure thirty years after its construction visited in June by the Vice President of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Antonio Tajani, together with the Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres.
“I am particularly pleased with the agreement reached with the United Nations for the strengthening of the Brindisi Logistics Services Centre given its fundamental role in addressing the numerous crises in Europe, the Middle East and Africa,” said the Minister Tajani. “This is an agreement that I strongly encourage, also given the important repercussions expected for the entire Brindisi area” continued the owner of the Farnesina.
In addition to the improvements planned for the United Nations Centre, the Italian Government has wanted to provide for the further strengthening the international vocation of the city, thanks to the allocations for the European School of Brindisi, established by the budget law in 2023, for increase local school supply, in particular the hiring of native English-speaking or experienced teaching and administrative staff.
The ambassador Massari, in recalling the importance of the United Nations Centre in Brindisi, also for the sending of humanitarian aid from the initiative launched “Food for Gaza” launched by Minister Tajani, underlined how “new targeted infrastructural investments will allow the Service Centre to respond even more rapidly and effectively to international emergencies, actively contributing to vital UN operations.
