Zelensky: the protection of nuclear power plants is essential
The Russian army lost half of its combat capability in Ukraine, including 2.500 tanks.
This was stated by the Chief of the Defense Staff of the United Kingdom, Admiral Tony Radakin.
Who rejects the idea of a too slow counter-offensive by Kiev's armed forces.
During a hearing before the Defense Committee of the House of Commons, Radakin emphasized that Russia is "currently so weak" that it does not have the strength to conduct its own counter-offensive.
“Last year it fired 10 million artillery shells but at best it can produce a million a year”, he added, specifying that given the loss of a maximum of 2.500 tanks, Moscow can supply its army with 200 new ones a year.
Compared to the Kiev counteroffensive, the admiral said that it is not about “a single action” but of a coordinated and prolonged effort. Furthermore, the Ukrainian strategy of continuous pressure on enemy lines is having results on the field. He also admitted the difficulties due to the length of the front and the density “larger than expected” of Russian minefields, the lack of air cover by Kiev's forces and the fact that Ukraine has not received all the armaments requested from the Western allies.
The risk of “sabotage by the Kiev regime” at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, controlled by the Russians, remains “very high”, a sabotage that would be “catastrophic in its consequences”.
The Kremlin spokesman said this Dmitry Peskov, also returning to accuse Ukraine of having blown up the Kakhovka dam.
This was reported by the Ria Novosti agency.
“There is still time” to meet Russian demands to save the Ukrainian grain export deal by renewing it after it expires on July 17, he said Peskov, cited by Russian agencies, reiterating however that at the moment there are no conditions for the extension.
“In these hours we are discussing the main challenges: the first is the protection of nuclear power plants.
We discussed it with the commander of the air force, the minister of the Interior, the head and director of Energoatom (the company that manages the four Ukrainian nuclear power plants), the head of the border guard service."
The Ukrainian president wrote it on Telegram Volodymyr Zelensky, after the other day Moscow spoke of the risk of "a sabotage by Kiev” at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant (in Russian-controlled territory).
