Verona, the redevelopment of Forte Procolo starts from the green. The creation of a new public park, 7 green hectares between the Navigatori, Saval and Catena districts accessible to citizens, is being accelerated. The municipal council has approved the definitive project for the recovery of all the green areas of the complex, in view of the transfer of the Fort from the State property. An intervention worth 410 thousand euros with a dual objective, eliminating the weed vegetation, which over the years has also covered the walls, and conserving the biodiversity that has been created over time. If on the one hand, in fact, the total abandonment of the area meant that the area was invaded by weeds, on the other hand a small spontaneous forest was formed, made up of a wide range of species of flora and fauna to protect.
In the next few months we will proceed with the executive project, the technical investigations, the awarding of the works with a public tender and the actual interventions. This is the first part of the overall redevelopment of Forte Procolo. A preliminary phase which involves cleaning the green spaces, walls and earthen roofs. This will allow the park to be opened immediately, as surveys and checks on the existing buildings, thanks to an advance authorization from the State Property Office, have already been carried out. The intervention has already received the favorable opinion of the Carabinieri Forestry Group of Verona.
This morning, to illustrate the timetable in live streaming, the councilors for the Gardens Marco Padovani and for Relations with UNESCO Francesca Toffali. Also present were the managers of the UNESCO municipal office Ettore Napione and of the public greenery Stefano Oliboni.
“We have decided to invest a significant sum for the landscaping and the creation of a large public park, which will already be partially available to the city by the summer – said Toffali -. As part of the agreement with the State Property Office, which provides for a valorisation program for the acquisition of the complex, we start work immediately. This is yet another intervention by the municipal administration for the protection of the heritage of the magistral walls, completely abandoned for years. I remember the other two already done, always to free the walls. After the landscaping of Bastione San Francesco, in the next few weeks we will proceed with the execution of the demolition orders for the illegal buildings. In addition to the intervention in Rondella delle Boccare, already completed in synergy with the Province. A slow journey, due to the acquisition times and the fact that no one has had a hand in it for many years, but it doesn't stop. Next summer we will see the first results."
“These will be preparatory works to proceed with the redevelopment of the entire Fort – explained Padovani -. An important intervention to arrange the 76 thousand square meters of greenery, in a strategic area, adjacent to populous neighborhoods which, finally, will be able to take advantage of a large public park. And a unique biodiversity. For this reason we will intervene to eliminate weeds but also to protect the varieties that constitute a very precious green heritage. An important result for the city and for the valorisation of our Forts".
