VPdC mission, Tajani flies to the United Arab Emirates
The Vice President of the Council and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Antonio Tajani, he went yesterday, June 18, 2023, ad Abu Dhabi, where he met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Abdallah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The mission, which is part of a progressive consolidation of bilateral relations strongly desired by the Italian government, intends to confirm the excellent level of political dialogue and economic collaboration between Rome and Abu Dhabi.
“We are extremely satisfied with our strategic partnership” commented Minister Tajani “we have begun a new phase of the bilateral relationship, which today is stronger than ever”.
The two Ministers will also discuss business opportunities, particularly in sectors such as the green economy and digital transition, in line with the UAE's role as host country for the upcoming COP28.
At the center of the talks there will also be a point on migration in the Mediterranean, a particularly sensitive issue in both countries. Rome and Abu Dhabi both support a global approach to the migration phenomenon, in the awareness that the fight against irregular flows and human trafficking requires a shared effort by all the countries involved.
An all-encompassing and inclusive approach, aimed at the economic and social development of the wider Mediterranean and Africa.
Tajani and Al Nahyan will finally discuss the main regional dossiers, starting with Libya and Tunisia, countries that are going through particularly complex phases, and in which both Rome and Abu Dhabi intend to play a leading role to identify sustainable solutions that guarantee stability and safety.
“We hope that the United Arab Emirates can exert its influence to resolve the critical issues of these countries” observed the Deputy Prime Minister “Italy and the UAE can play a leading role to facilitate stabilization and avoid negative spirals with unpredictable consequences, also in terms of further migratory pressure”.
