Undersecretary Maria Tripodi participated in the celebrations for the sixtieth anniversary of the Ettore Majorana Foundation and Center for Scientific Culture of Erice.

Undersecretary Maria Tripodi spoke at the opening of the celebrations for the sixtieth anniversary of the Ettore Majorana Foundation and Center for Scientific Culture of Erice, founded and chaired by the physicist Antonino Zichichi, underway in the Sicilian town with the patronage of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. Present at the event are scientists from all over the world and the directors of the schools belonging to the Majorana Foundation, who, together with Professor Zichichi, will sign an addendum to the Erice Manifesto of 1982. The Undersecretary, in his speech, underlined the importance of work done in these 60 years by the Foundation, “a bastion of the promotion and diffusion of science and peace.” “I want to remember a phrase that I have heard repeated several times President Silvio Berlusconi, meeting, either Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is the president of the Palestinian National Authority, Abu Mazen: “If it could be useful, Italy would be happy to make Erice available” continued the undersecretary, highlighting how Erice and its Manifesto are still very relevant. The pandemic itself, as expertly recalled in the Addendum, has demonstrated that “when science and its discoveries are put at the service of humanity, true collaboration between scientists of different origins makes it possible to face and overcome, in a global way, the new challenges that endanger the existence of the genre human". Undersecretary Maria Tripodi concluded by stating “This is where we can pick up; it is from here that we can start again, encouraging dialogue and cooperation between scientists from all over the world, as an instrument of peace, progress and resolution of planetary emergencies".
